Preschool Indoor Adventure – Plan a Picnic

Picnic Basket By Lynn Moore

Whether you are in an area that is still being buried with snow or you are in one of the warm areas with spring rain randomly appearing, this indoor picnic idea is a perfect way to chase away preschool blues.

Get Ready

Read We're Going on a Bear Hunt (Classic Board Books) by Rosen and Oxenbury. Wait! This is supposed to be a picnic adventure, you say! True. Reading the bear hunt book establishes the idea of going on an adventure. It also plants the catchy rhythm in everyone’s mind. The upbeat, repetitive words can easily carry over to your preschool picnic adventure.

Get Set

  1. Let your preschooler help plan what foods and drinks you will take.
  2. Pack needed supplies. Talk about where you will sit and what you will do after you eat.
  3. Invite a few friends. You may choose to invite family members, stuffed animals and dolls, or real preschool friends. (If you choose not to invite real preschool friends, be prepared to repeat this adventure the next time friends visit. The indoor preschool picnic adventure is a favorite that becomes tradition.) Encourage your preschooler to do the inviting.

Go!

It is time for your indoor preschool picnic. Take a bathroom break. Everyone carries something, and you are off!Bentley's Family Picnic

Remember that the journey will be long (through the living room, up the stairs, down the hall, etc.). When you get to the preschool picnic, remember to stay for awhile to enjoy all the fun activities that you packed. After the picnic, everyone helps to pack up and return home.
